The two are inexorably intertwined, each fueling the other. While career growth is the goal, career development is the journey to get there.

They actively seek out career development opportunities, continually learning, pushing their boundaries, taking on challenges, and growing their skill set. As they do, they position themselves for career growth, climbing up the ladder, exploring new roles, and expanding their sphere of influence.

Perhaps there’s an upcoming project you can lead, or maybe you’ve identified a course that can enhance your knowledge and skills. Remember – sitting back and waiting for opportunities to appear isn’t enough, you need to actively pursue them. 

For instance, if you’re working in an entry-level marketing position, you might seek to assist in managing social media campaigns to gain practical experience and showcase your abilities. 

2. Prioritizing Continuous Learning and Development

In today’s ever-changing job market, it’s important to keep learning and adding new skills. This could mean taking courses, attending webinars or workshops, or even reading regularly about your industry. Here are the steps you’ll need to take to set one.

Start by evaluating where you currently stand professionally. This is essentially a deep dive into your skills, knowledge, abilities, and interests. Taking time for self-reflection can provide insight into what you genuinely want out of your career. Ask yourself questions like:
